What is so great about Final Fantasy games?

by NFL sunday games ~ March 5th, 2010. Filed under: Fantasy Games.

I don’t mean that in a scathing manner, I’m just curious. I’ve never played any of the Final Fantasy games and it seems to be a very popular RPG title. Can someone explain what’s the attraction?

obviously timothy doesn’t know anything about gaming. I own almost every single Final Fantasy game, The story line is great, It’s challenging, the characters personality and traits are very unique. The battle system in each FF is different. FF7 is one of the best games of all time, and this guy tim says he doesn’t recommend it? lol. Funny how he used nerd yet he’s answering video game questions. Nice way of spending your "gangster time"

they have great storylines , great characters and the gameplay is good enough to make playing for weeks to finish everything fun , plus they’re always really good graphics for the time ( ff7 was cutting edge graphics on the ps1 and ff13 will use lots of the ps3s power to run ) and the way the stories can involve multiple characters as a team is pretty cool . if you have never played one or any rpg the only way to find out is to try one , I’m not a huge rpg fan but played final fantasy 7 and 8 on ps1 and the only other game with as good a story at the time was metal gear solid , but that took 12 hours to play through and ff7 was around 70 hours , play value for the money for sure .

btw , timothy : obviously he has a ps2 or ps3 , he asked about a playstation exclusive ( before ff13 ) in the playstation category , and you are probably a huge nerd playing all those games . ( plus timothy is a pretty nerdy name lol , especially when you can pick something else for your screen name :( )

great story lines, hard to complete(even without side quests), and constantly pushing the envelope with the graphics and sound. Been playing them since the old NES, and they’re all completely different. The only one I didn’t like was the sequel to X. Mad fruity.

    Sigh :!

I dunno it anymore now you have to go back at least 10 years, japanese people have a different idea about what makes a good game then western people. So when they we’re making RPG’s they made it their own style. And in that time WRPG’s we’re not always that good many we’re quite weak actually. It was a time where beyond a few big titles many we’re rather formaliac. So JRPG’s came to europe in for euruopeans acceptable formats and they loved it. It was new refreshing and Final Fantasy lead the pack!

Great Story, Great Script, Great Battles..

Nowadays I feel like that it is the western rpg’s that are fresher, ahead. Why? JRPG’s became so complicated the story so conviluted and characters so unlikeable that you did tired of them. Right when WRPG’s really began to work on making great stories, characters that mattered and things like that it mattered what choices you made.

See that is the bare bone issue a JRPG is supposed to be a rollercoaster ride, it is fancy, has story characters and.. yet you know that the rollercoaster only goes a certain way. And after title and title of these JRPG’s we already have had almost every darn story. So when we buy a new one we know the freaking story already. It is that problem.

WRPG’s though improved where many JRPG’s didn’t. Right now after seeing game footage of Final Fantasy XIII I am still not sure if it is worth it. Why should I care for these characters.. and inevitable it probably is the same "evil goverment" story that in the end was only doing the biddings of "an evil spirit" Yeah right never heard of :! Actually that was the story behind many JRPG’s.

It is kind of a joke that you can make your own JRPG by a simple script
The world is danger because of [insert here] Demons/Evil Goverment/The Church/A Cult etc. and so on with the other things.

So is the series good? Yes! But maybe they simply did go on to long!

Well, it’s all about what kind of games you like, but to answer why they seem to be popular is because of one thing STORY. I’ve played some Final Fantasy games that I Loved, and then I played some that I hated. Just like a Movie or Book, you just want to find out what is going to happen to the characters and ultimately how it all ends. Anything before FF7 I never played, but 7 got me because of the graphics and story. After FF8 the rest were mediocre in my opinion, but like the saying goes, everyone has one. Even tho it’s a old game, try getting FF7 or 8 on the psn, if you have a ps3 or psp. Very cheap, and you can see if you like it. IF you see any FF with Tatics I would stay away. I found them very boring.
